Local Core Utility is designed so that Time Engine file-history processing runs on the user's computer. The application watches only folders selected by the user, creates local recovery points, and stores version metadata and compressed content-addressed payloads in the application's local data directory.
File content and network use
The current Time Engine does not require a cloud service to monitor, version, preview, or restore protected files. The application does not intentionally upload protected file contents, recovered versions, filenames, or version history to a Local Core service. The current desktop build does not include product telemetry or analytics reporting.
Future licensing or update services, if added, must be documented separately and must not silently transmit protected file contents. This notice will be reviewed whenever network-connected features are introduced.
Local storage
Settings, SQLite metadata, and version payloads are stored locally in the operating system's application-data location. Local Core does not currently provide its own encryption-at-rest layer for this store; protection at rest therefore depends on the operating system, account permissions, disk encryption, and device security configured by the user.
Preview data is generated from local retained versions and passed to the local Tauri webview for display. The product should be treated as having access to every file inside folders the user chooses to protect.
Retention and deletion
Retention and quota policies can remove older recovery points and unreferenced chunk objects. Uninstalling the application may not, by itself, guarantee secure erasure of every byte previously written to disk. Users who require secure deletion should use operating-system or storage-device procedures appropriate to their environment.
